Elwood Staffing Historical Timeline

Elwood Staffing wasn't always a staffing company, and maybe that's what makes us such a good one. The company originally provided employee opinion surveys and pre-employment testing, so the very core of our business has always been to understand "what makes people tick" and to find the best person for the job.

1980

Elwood Consulting established. Dr. David L. Elwood founds Elwood Consulting, a provider of pre-employment testing services, in Columbus, Indiana.

1987

Mark S. Elwood joins the company. Mark S. Elwood, the middle son, graduates from Indiana University and joins the company. The company expands its services to include employee opinion surveys.

1993

Services Expand. The company expands its services again to include interviewing, skill testing, drug testing, making hiring recommendations, arranging for physicals, and handling applicant phone calls and correspondence.

1994

Temporary staffing services offered. As the company expands to offer a full range of temporary services, the company adopts its 5 Key Beliefs: Quality, Progress, Responsiveness, Flexibility, and Relationships.

1995

Incorporated as Elwood Consulting Company, Inc. The company is incorporated as Elwood Consulting Company, Inc. The company opens a second satellite office in Martinsville, Indiana.

1996

John A. Elwood joins the company. John A. Elwood, the youngest of the three sons, moves from a career with Burlington Industries to join Elwood Consulting.

1997

Name change to Elwood Staffing Services, Inc. The company selects a brand name that better reflects its core offering of temporary services and chooses purple as the corporate color. Indiana University's Kelley School of Business awards Elwood Staffing the Growth 100 Award for the first time. The company profile shows employee growth, increasing from 6 employees in 1996 to 12 employees in 1997.

Mark S. Elwood named President. Mark S. Elwood assumes the role of President of Elwood Staffing. Mark's keen business sense and strong sales focus are an excellent choice for a company with an eye toward expansion.

1998

Growth 100 Award. Indiana Business Magazine profiles Elwood Staffing as one of Indiana's Growth 100 companies in November, 1998.

Mark S. Elwood named "Small Business Person of the Year." The Columbus (Indiana) Chamber of Commerce names Mark S. Elwood the 1998 Small Business Person of the Year.

2000

John A. Elwood named Executive Vice President. The company promotes John A. Elwood to Executive Vice President. John served as branch manager and sales representative prior to his promotion.

Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, joins the company. Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, leaves Arvin Industries to join Elwood Staffing as Controller. Hunnicutt performed consulting work in public accounting prior to joining Elwood.

2001

Job Placement Services acquisition. Elwood Staffing makes its first acquisition when it purchases Job Placement Services of Valparaiso, Indiana.

2002

Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, named Chief Financial Officer. The company promotes Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, to the position of Chief Financial Officer.

2003

Headquarters groundbreaking. Elwood Staffing breaks ground on its corporate headquarters in Columbus, Indiana, and it opens for business later that year.

Mark S. Elwood and John A. Elwood are promoted. Mark S. Elwood assumes the position of Chief Executive Officer, and John A. Elwood becomes President and Chief Operating Officer.

2004

Hubbuch Staffing acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Hubbuch Staffing of New Albany, Indiana.

Michael D. Elwood joins the company. Michael D. Elwood, the eldest son, leaves Hewlett-Packard to join Elwood Staffing as Executive Vice President. Mike's extensive background in banking, mergers, and acquisitions makes an excellent addition to the executive team.

2005

America's Fastest-Growing Companies ranking. Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing as one of America's fastest-growing private staffing companies.

Entrepreneurial Award finalist. The Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business names Elwood Staffing a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award of Distinction in the Growth category.

2006

TRI Staffing and Premier Staffing acquisitions. Elwood Staffing acquires TRI Staffing, the largest privately held staffing company in Alabama with additional offices in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as Premier Staffing of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Michael Stockard, Jr., appointed Vice President of Sales. The company appoints Michael Stockard, Jr., formerly of TRI Staffing, to the role of Vice President of Sales. Stockard brings 13 years of staffing experience to the company.

Georgia expansion. Elwood Staffing opens its first office in the state of Georgia.

Kentucky expansion. Elwood Staffing opens its first office in the state of Kentucky.

America's Fastest-Growing Companies ranking. Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing as one of America's fastest-growing private staffing companies for the second consecutive year.

Entrepreneurial Award finalist. The Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business names Elwood Staffing a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award of Distinction in the Growth category for the second consecutive year.

2007

Elwood Staffing rebrand. Elwood Staffing contracts with Meyer & Wallis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Indianapolis, Indiana, to develop a new logo, tagline, and marketing campaign. Purple remains a distinguishing characteristic, but the logo is updated to reflect a cleaner, more sophisticated image.

Nevada expansion. Elwood Staffing expands into the state of Nevada when it begins servicing customers in the Reno area.

Texas expansion. Elwood Staffing expands into the state of Texas when it begins servicing customers in the Fort Worth area.

Michael Stockard, Jr. named Senior Vice President. The company promotes Michael Stockard, Jr., to the position of Senior Vice President. Mike's strong relationship selling skills and proven track record make for an ideal fit.

America's Fastest-Growing Companies ranking. Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing as one of America's fastest-growing private staffing companies for the third consecutive year.

2008

2008 Best Places to Work in Indiana award. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce names Elwood Staffing one of the 2008 Best Places to Work in Indiana. Employee surveys were the basis for consideration and eventual inclusion on the list.

America's Fastest-Growing Companies ranking. Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing as one of America's fastest-growing private staffing companies for the fourth consecutive year.

Inc. 5000 recognition. Inc. 5000 names Elwood Staffing one of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies with 3-year sales growth of 248.4%.

2009

Time Services acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Time Services of Michigan and Indiana.

2010

Alpha Omega Resources acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Alpha Omega Resources of Virginia.

Multi Staffing Services, Inc. acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Multi Staffing Services, Inc. of Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

2012

Beacon Staffing acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Beacon Staffing of Michigan.

2013

SOS Employment Group acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Utah-based SOS Employment Group, increasing its branch and on-site count to more than 250 locations in 33 states and boosting its total internal staff headcount to nearly 1,000 employees.

2014

Encore Staffing Services acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Encore Staffing Services, expanding its footprint into Kansas and Missouri.

2015

York Companies acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires York Companies, enhancing its presence in Louisville and Shepherdsville, Kentucky, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

2016

Berks & Beyond Employment Services, Inc. acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Berks & Beyond, enhancing its presence by 15 offices throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. The acquired company will continue to operate under the name Berks & Beyond and will function as a division of Elwood Staffing.

White Staffing Management acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires White Staffing Management, enhancing its presence in Bowling Green and Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Gallatin and La Vergne, Tennessee.

2017

Swanson Staffing acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Swanson Staffing, expanding its footprint by four offices located in Fort Wayne, LaPorte, and Elkhart, Indiana, and Sarasota, Florida.

2018

Lyons HR commercial staffing division acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires the commercial staffing division of Lyons HR, expanding its Alabama market.

2021

Diane Bohman named President. The company promotes Diane Bohman to President, becoming the first female and non-Elwood family president in the company's history. Diane served as Senior Vice President of MSP Solutions prior to her promotion.

John A. Elwood named CEO. John A. Elwood has served in a leadership role since 1996 and assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer from Mark S. Elwood.

Mark S. Elwood assumes Chairman of the Board role. Leading the company since 1987, Mark S. Elwood served as both President and CEO. Mark now serves as Chairman of the Board and remains active in helping grow and support the organization.

2023

IES Custom Staffing Solutions acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires IES Custom Staffing Solutions, further enhancing its presence in Idaho and Utah.

Advanced Personnel acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires Advanced Personnel, expanding its footprint within the Kansas and Missouri markets.

NAOS Staffing acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires NAOS Staffing, further advancing its on-site staffing delivery capabilities and bolstering the company's already strong service footprint in the South.

2024

BelFlex Staffing Network acquisition. Elwood Staffing acquires BelFlex Staffing Network, boosting the company's national service footprint by 26 branch locations in 19 new markets throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
